Options for end of life treatment

The Hemlock Society of Florida was pleased to present a free panel discussion covering the latest information regarding end-of-life issues facing patients in Florida. The discussion took place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16th at the University Unitarian Church in Orlando. The event was free and open to the public.

Topics discussed included choosing the time and place for a dignified death, end-of-life treatment and care options, legal issues regarding advance directives, engaging family members and how and when hospice can be of help.

Critical Choices at the End of Life

Richard MacDonald, M.D. and Jim Chastain, Ph.D. will tour seven cities in Florida to present the latest information on the right of people to choose their time and place for a dignified death, advance directives, family relations, hospice, and the possible services of Final Exit Network.

Dr. MacDonald has provided an experienced, compassionate presence for many who made that choice, attending at close to two hundred chosen hastened deaths over the last decade.  He has practiced as a family physician in the United States and Canada, and has served as medical director of the Hemlock Society and End of Life Choice as well as serving as President of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies

Dr. Chastain is President of Final Exit Network of Florida, Senior Exit Guide, former Director of Development for the Hemlock Society, USA and a University finance professor and administrator for 40 years.
